Funding available to support your community placemaking projects!

Have a public improvement project that needs funding? Empty lot that needs improvement? Alley-way or building façade that needs a facelift? Well Commonwealth Places is here to fund to it! Commonwealth Places is a crowdgranting challenge program created by MassDevelopment to activate new or distressed public places & community spaces. The program is open to municipalities and non-profits to improve low/moderate-income communities in Massachusetts.

This opportunity mobilizes community members, residents and general supporters to make individual contributions while promoting their efforts to others. Communities and non-profits can submit projects by applying for a Patronicity crowdfunding online donation campaign. Projects meeting fundraising goals can receive a matching grant from MassDevelopment of up to $50,000.

Commonwealth Places projects include:

  • Public Plaza & Green Space Development
  • Access to Public Amenities
  • Farmer’s Markets, Community Kitchens, Pop-Up Retail/Incubator Space
  • Alley Rehabilitation
  • Any other place based (or public space improvement) project
